About Booking & What Is Needed

  • A high quality reference photo is required to book a portrait. Reference photos are recommended to be taken at the subjects eye level, and need to capture the fur direction of the subject. If you are unsure about your reference photo, send it across to Lucy and she will let you know- especially if your pet has gone over rainbow bridge as exceptions can be made.

  • A 50% non-refundable deposit is required to book your slot. (This would only be refunded on the basis of Lucy being unable to work).

  • Bookings do need to be made 3-4 months in advance. Occasionally spaces do pop up and Lucy will try her best to accommodate but the earlier you book in the better.

  • Contact via email sharealittlefrankie@hotmail.com with your name, your pets name, the size you are interested in and Lucy will proceed from there.

  • Booking timeline for Christmas: filled by June in 2023. Please be aware there will now be less spaces for Christmas as they include going to the framers to be mounted, after drawing.

Pet Portrait Add On's

Photoshoot Service

  • This add on is only available if you live in Dorset.
  • This service starts from £40.00 and increases depending on your location in Dorset.
  • The price includes multiple animals being photographed
  • All photos taken will be sent across for the owner to keep, and to choose a reference from

Professional Framing Service

  • Lucy can arrange framing for your portrait. All portraits booked with the new prices come professionally mounted and backed with barrier and acid board to protect the portrait while it is waiting to be framed.
  • However, Lucy can also arrange framing too. This price varies depending on size of your portrait, and framing choice but is something that can be discussed with Lucy when booking.

FAQs

How long do the portraits take to draw?

Portraits take 10-30 hours to draw depending on the size you choose and could take from 2-4 weeks to complete.

If I don't have a very good reference which size should I go for? Or how can I take a better reference photo?

The recommended size, and most popular, is the A3. As Lucy has enough room to make up slight details if needed.

The Mini has been brought out as a smaller option, but due to the size it does require a much better reference. The rule is the larger the size, the more detail can be created.

To take a better reference photo:

  • Take a photo at the pets eye level
  • Take the photo in natural light (preferably outside or near a window)
  • Try to keep the subject as still as possible to capture the fur direction

What colour are the portraits mounted in? And can I choose my own mount?

Lucy mounts her portraits in a very pale grey/blue mount, as the cooler natural colour seems to sit very well against her graphite pencil work. However, if you had a particular colour in mind Lucy can discuss other options.

The paler grey mount can be seen in both artwork examples at the top of the page.

What is barrier and backing board and what is the benefit of having it?

Barrier and backing board will be placed behind all professionally framed artwork.

It means that you will have to only pay for your frame and glass when later framing It, but more importantly the barrier board protects the paper from being stained by the acid found in backing board (which is why I always recommend professionally framing artwork). It also means if the artwork is going to wait for a period before it's being framed it will remain safe.
